Greetings from Krakow!

I am thrilled to send you this message at the start of a busy summer for the Consulate in Krakow. As you may know from the news, we will be visited on July 3 by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. She will be participating in the 10th Anniversary Events of the Community of Democracies. On the 4th of July, we are happy to invite you to the International Cultural Centre in Krakow for a full day of activities, which kick off our summer of New York in Krakow, headlined by the photographic exhibit "Andreas Feininger: New York in the 1940s." We are excited also to announce a major art exhibit, "Floodwall," which we will host with the National Museum in Wroclaw. Both of these exhibits are accompanied by outstanding educational programs. All of these activities are testament to the excellent cultural, social and political relations between the United States and Poland and we look forward to seeing you at many of these events.

Sincerely,

"Floodwall" in Wroclaw

Floodwall is an installation by the American artist Jana Napoli, comprising 350 drawers. It is a poignant testimony to the cataclysm that devastated New Orleans five years ago: on 29 August 2005, the city was ravaged by the hurricane Katrina. In an effort to commemorate the tragedy of the city and its residents, Napoli collected hundreds of drawers that had been spread among the debris in the water and mud, and reassembled them to create a piece of art intended as a monument to the victims.

It will be on display at the National Museum in Wroclaw from July 14 to September 5. There will be an accompanying educational program, more details at Centrum Sztuki Impart's website: http://impart.art.pl/repertuar/150,Floodwall-Jany-Napoli.html

Please join us at Centrum Sztuki Impart in Wroclaw on August 19 for two films about New Orleans from the American Documentary Showcase.
