The U.S. Consulate General in Krakow announces an international conference "Non-Violent Revolutions" on October 6-7 in Villa Decius in Krakow. This year's program marks 25th anniversary of Polish Solidarność and will focus on "Non-violent revolutions: the quest for freedom and the makings of dialog". The conference has an honorary patronage of Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs and was made possible owing to the large support of several countries including the United States. On October 6-7 the organizers together with Polish and foreign partners will bring to Villa Decius some of the historical protagonists of recent peaceful revolutions such as Lech Wałęsa, as well as young leaders of recent democratic struggles from Ukraine, Georgia and Serbia. The Artur Szyk exhibit Justice Illuminated: The Art of Artur Szyk will be opened on Monday, October 24th, 6:00 p.m. at the Jewish Cultural Center, Meiselsa 17 in Krakow. The opening will be accompanied by the introduction on Artur Szyk's art by Rabbi Irvin D. Ungar of the Arthur Szyk Society. The exhibit presented previously in Warsaw and Lodz is the first presentation of artist's works in Poland after he left the country in 1937.
Artur Szyk, born in 1894 in Lodz, is considered by scholars and art critics to have been the greatest 20th century illuminator working in the style of the 16th century miniaturist painters. Americans first knew and loved Artur Szyk's illuminated manuscripts and political caricatures as they appeared on and between the covers of their most popular magazines during the Second World War: Time, Esquire, Collier's and advertisements for U.S. Steel and Coca Cola. His subjects were as diverse as his uniquely combined styles of renaissance illumination and political caricature.

International Development Goals
Moving Forward
Leaders of the world's eight major economies (G8), at their annual meeting in July 2005, called on all nations to recommit themselves to supporting economic progress and good governance in the developing world, particularly in Africa the only continent not on track to meet by 2015 any of the goals agreed on at the international Millennium Summit in 2000 and put forth in the Millennium Declaration.
The new e-journal of International Information Programs provides a glance at some of the individual U.S. development projects throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America that seek to address the key objectives of the Millennium Declaration: eradicating extreme poverty and hunger; achieving universal primary education; promoting gender equality and empowering women; reducing child mortality and improving maternal health; combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases; ensuring environmental sustainability; and developing a global partnership for development.
