The Art of Writing and the Art of Translation The U.S. Consulate General in Krakow is pleased to present "The Art of Writing and the Art of Translation," a meeting with Stefan Chwin, renowned author of fiction and essays, historian of literature and professor at Gdansk University; and Philip Boehm, the translator of Chwin's most acclaimed novel "Hanemann" (English title: "Death in Danzig") into English. The 60th Anniversary of the End of World War II World War II ended 60 years ago in Europe when the Allies celebrated victory on May 8. It was followed by victory in the Pacific on August 14. "Freedom prevailed when millions were liberated from oppression and tyranny was replaced by democracy," President Bush notes in a May 3 proclamation. The president proclaims 2005 as the National Observance of the 60th Anniversary of the End of World War II.
