Greetings from Krakow!

On behalf of my family and the entire staff of the Consulate General, I want to start this month’s Spotlight with a message of solidarity to victims of the flooding in May. The U.S. Mission to Poland worked with the Polish government to provide equipment for combating the flooding and made a donation of 50,000 USD to the Polish Red Cross. We will continue to look for opportunities to assist our affected Polish friends and neighbors.

On a more pleasant note, June starts with Children’s Day and I am happy to get to spend some time with some Polish elementary and high school students on that day. While we normally focus on Consulate initiated activities in this newsletter, I would like to congratulate the City Historical Museum of Krakow on completion of the Oskar Schindler Museum and its opening on June 10. The Consulate is proud of our role in working with the staff and helping to arrange visits of the curators to the United States during the planning of the museum. Warmer days usually turn thoughts to leisurely summer-time activities and vacations, but we know that it means lots of great cultural activities in Krakow and throughout our region. The Consulate will be involved in many of these activities, some of which are highlighted below, and we look forward to seeing you out and about.

Sincerely,
Allen Greenberg
Consul General

Young Learners Resource Center

On June 1, Consul General Allen Greenberg will visit the Elementary School no 10 in Krakow to meet with the children on the occasion of International Children’s Day.

The Elementary School no 10 and U.S. Consulate in Krakow will soon open a Young Learners Resource Center, a resource for Polish teachers of English, teaching young children ages 4-11. The Center will provide teachers with an opportunity to improve their teaching methodologies and curricula for teaching English to young learners and will introduce books from U.S. publishers that are unknown or unavailable in the local teaching market. It will also have equipment with which teachers will be able to prepare their own materials and provide an opportunity for teachers to exchange ideas and establish networks. The Krakow center, which will be jointly operated by the U.S. Consulate and the City of Krakow, is planned to open in time for the next school year.
