American Independence Day Concert in Opole Independence Day is regarded as the birthday of the United States as a free and independent nation. Most Americans simply call it the "Fourth of July," on which date it always falls. The holiday recalls the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. At that time, the people of the 13 British colonies were involved in a war over what they considered unjust treatment by the King and Parliament in Britain. The war began in 1775 and as it continued, the colonists realized that they were fighting not just for better treatment; they were fighting for freedom from British rule. In the United States, July 4th is a day of picnics and patriotic parades, a night of concerts and fireworks. To celebrate Independence Day U.S Consulate General in Krakow and the Mayor of Opole would like to invite you for a special concert on July 2 (Sunday) at 5:00 p.m. at Sala Koncertowa Filharmonii Opolskiej. Tickets will be distributed at the Philharmonic Hall on a first come first served basis. The Symphonic Orchestra of Philharmonics in Opole will be conducted by Maestro Boguslaw Dawidow and will feature Rebecca Babb-Nelsen (USA) - soprano as the Soloist. The program "SALUTE TO BROADWAY" includes: G. Gershwin - American in Paris, Summertime, A.Copland - Fanfare for a common man, J. Ph. Sousa - Washington Post, Stars and stripes forever and American standards: You’ll never walk alone, I could have danced all night, It had to be you, Fly me to the moon, My funny Valentin.
