December; 2010 In This
Issue: |
As we come to the end of the year and the holiday season, it is an appropriate time to say thank you to the many people we have worked with over the past year. As I reflect on the past year, I am struck not only by the adversities faced in the Consular district but also by the remarkable resiliency shown in responding to those challenges. A wonderful example is the new relationship that the Consulate General has developed with the Specjalny Ośrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczy dla Dzieci Niewidomych i Słabowidzących at Tyniecka Street in Krakow. The school was badly damaged during last spring's floods and the English-language materials of the school were destroyed. When the Consulate learned of this damage, we responded with a donation of books and the families and staff of the Consulate raised money to help the school. We have continued our partnership by bringing a clarinet quartet from the US Air Force in Europe band for a concert and workshop with the school's music students. My wife and I very much enjoyed hosting some of the students and teachers for an American Thanksgiving dinner with the quartet. The Polish-American Forum, along with the Polish Embassy in Washington, DC, is also hosting a fundraising event in Washington, DC. It has been tremendously gratifying during this season of giving to see so many different groups step forward to help. Below, you’ll see some activities of interest this month and also some interesting chances to take a look back at the year that was for the Consulate General.. Sincerely, |
Consul General
