American and Polish poets in Krakow

Third annual Krakow Poetry Seminar took place on July 7-14, 2004. Among the participans were American poets Robert Pinsky, Carolyn Forché, Tony Hoagland and Polish poets Wislawa Szymborska, Adam Zagajewski, Agnieszka Kuciak, Tomasz Rózycki and Janusz Szuber.

The Seminar was organized by the University of Houston and Poetry and Music Association with support from the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow. It included poetry readings, lectures and discussion panels.

On July 11 the former U.S. Poet Laureate, Robert Pinsky gave a presentation at the Loch Camelot Cafe. The evening was hosted by the poet Adam Zagajewski and Jerzy Illg of Znak Publishing House. Pinsky read some of his poems and presented his Favorite Poem Project. He also encouraged the audience, among them from the University of Houston, to read out their favorite poems. On July 12 the Tempel Synagogue hosted an evening of poetry reading with Anne Carson, Edward Hirsch, and Wislawa Szymborska among others. It was attended by around 500 people.
