The first in a series of seminars organized within the framework of the Bridges to the East program took place at Malopolska Institute of Local Government and Administration on May 7, 2003.

Entitled Together Across the Borders - Poland : Ukraine, the conference brought together representatives of Ukrainian and Polish non-governmental and governmental organizations, the Ukrainian minority in Poland and the media.

The seminar was opened by the Ukrainian Consul General in Krakow, Oleksandr Medovnikov, and the Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow, Leslie High. The discussion focused on the past and current co-operation between Polish and Ukrainian NGOs as well as prospects for future co-operation in the light of European Union enlargement.

Bridges to the East series aims at building a lasting co-operation between Western, Polish and Ukrainian institutions and organizations.
