Public Affairs Section Helps Krakow Students Celebrate U.S. Elections

Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow helped Krakowska Szkoła Wyższa, a Krakow private university, to organize an all night election event for students and professors of all of Krakow's universities and colleges on November 1-2, 2004. The party drew around 850 Polish students and professors including some 50 Americans. The program offered a wide range of activities that drew students into a festive election night atmosphere and included a mock presidential debate and presidential poll and of course live big-screen television coverage. Along with bunting, balloons and campaign buttons, PAS provided videotape of the presidential debates and TV advertising. The event was covered (arranged with the help of PAS) by TVP 1 the main national TV channel, which did half a dozen live segments from the event including interviews with students and professors. The Krakow election night event was the only outside venue from which the Polish TVP 1 broadcast. Coverage of the event reached the widest possible audience in Poland. Other national media, including the most popular radio network RMF and TOK FM Radio also covered the event in their news programs.
