Happy New Year!

Ambassador Ashe and Tadeusz Krzakowski, Mayor of Legnica
Ambassador Ashe and Tadeusz Krzakowski, Mayor of Legnica

I want to take this opportunity to wish you a healthy and successful 2006. As we embark on another year of strong Polish/U.S. relations I want to take this opportunity to highlight the visits of some very important members of the U.S. Government. The visits of Commerce Secretary Gutierrez, members of Congress, and Assistant Secretaries of State underline the importance placed on our strategic partnership with Poland and efforts we are making to improve that partnership.

I recently visited the Silesia region of Poland in my ongoing efforts to remain the Ambassador to all of Poland and not just Warsaw. We finalized agreement for our second “American Corner” in Wrocław and I want to draw your attention to that. An “American Corner” is a small outpost of American Culture where we make print and electronic resources available to Polish people interested in the United States. I encourage those of you who have the opportunity to visit the new American Corner in Wrocław after we open it in the spring or our other American Corner in Łódź.

I would also like to draw your attention to a new feature on our Embassy website called “Ask the Consul” where we display visa-related questions submitted by Poles and where anyone can have general questions answered. These are just a handful of the activities we are undertaking in our efforts to maintain and promote the bilateral relationship between our two great nations. For more information about our activities visit our website at http://warsaw.usembassy.gov/. Once again, all the best for 2006!
