April Showers...

 Ambassador Victor Ashe

Bring May Flowers as the saying goes-at least in America! I hope we don’t get too many showers this April though as we have a lot of visitors coming to see us here in Warsaw. Rain is generally a good thing for farmers though and I know the Agriculturalists here in Poland are gearing up for another busy spring! I’m personally looking forward to those fresh berries, which, as Secretary of Agriculture Johanns underlined in his visit last month, can benefit from trade liberalization.

Ambassador Victor Ashe

The trade outreach mission I led last month to the U.S. in conjunction with the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service and the American Chamber of Commerce went really well. You’ll note in a piece below that the first Polish F-16 had a successful trial flight in Texas and things remain on track for November delivery. We also had a delegation from the U.S. Conference of Mayors and I think each of the Mayors saw the promise for investment and trade in Poland. I also had the pleasure of handing over some $180,000 in computer equipment to the National Police of Poland a few weeks ago which I hope will enhance the already strong collaboration between U.S. and Polish law enforcement organizations.
This month we have several members of Congress coming to Poland including Senator Bill Frist and Congressmen Chris Smith and Mark Foley. In addition, Governor Frank Murkowski of Alaska will be here, as well as former Ambassador to Poland Tom Simons.
Please keep track of our activities, such as the speaking engagements of Former Ambassador Simons, through our website at http://warsaw.usembassy.gov. We do our best to keep it up to date with all of the latest information concerning our many activities here.
